The Golf GTI itself quickly became an automotive icon: small, lightweight and surprisingly dynamic for its time. The Cabriolet version translated this philosophy into the world of open-top motoring, offering driving thrills and a sense of freedom. The 1984 model continued the success of the first-generation Golf—originally designed by Italdesign—retaining its timeless body lines while infusing it with the sportier character of the GTI. The British Version Cabriolet stood out thanks to specific details and specifications prepared for the UK market, making it an even more exclusive variant of this legendary design. The Golf GTI Cabriolet became a symbol of the 1980s lifestyle—a car for those who expected something more than just transportation: freedom, excitement and style.
